The meeting between transport unions and the management of Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) management didn’t meet any ends as the talks failed to form a resolution to the ongoing strike called by the employees. The meeting was chaired by Maharashtra’s chief secretary on Saturday, January 12.
The Bombay High Court had asked the union members to meet the committee headed by chief secretary D K Jain, BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta, BEST general manager Surendrakumar Bagde, secretaries of the transport and urban development departments, to end the ongoing strike and come up with solutions to the crisis.
The Indian Express quoted BEST Workers’ Union president, Shankar Rao, as saying, “We put our stand before them and very clearly stated that we will not withdraw the strike until our demands are accepted.”
On Monday, a report will be submitted by the chief secretary to the Bombay High Court on the matter.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
