Mumbai Police Arrest Twitter User For Mocking Uddhav And Aaditya Thackeray

The Mumbai cyber police arrested a woman, Sunaina Holey, for allegedly posting 'offensive' remarks against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his son and state minister Aaditya Thackeray on social media. She was granted bail by a local court later on Thursday (6 August), reports Times of India.
Holey allegedly also shared a morphed picture of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on social media.
The police booked her for promoting enmity between different groups and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony, defamation and other charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), reports Hindustan Times.
According to the HT report, Holey, a resident of Navi Mumbai, was arrested based on a complaint filed by advocate Dharmendra Mishra, who is also associated with Shiv Sena, as the party’s legal consultant.
In the complaint, Mishra alleged that the woman abused Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and state minister Aaditya Thackeray through a series of tweets on 25 July and 28 July.
Following Sunaina's arrest, Twitter users started trending #IStandWithSunainaHoley. Many said that her arrest was an assault on freedom of expression.
BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya also came out in Sunaina's support and assured her of assistance if the Mumbai police took any action against her.
