The sitting Lok Sabha MP from Baramulla-Kupwara constituency of North Kashmir, and one of the founding leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Muzaffar Hussain Baig, has announced his inclination to part ways with his party due to differences with the PDP top brass. He expressed his displeasure over how the party boycotted the recent Urban Local Bodies (ULB) and Panchayat polls in the valley.

“It won’t be easy for me to resign from the party I founded. I will have to think over it before taking a decision,” Baig stated at a press conference in Srinagar, as per a report by The New Indian Express.

He lashed out at the PDP leadership for aping the National Conference (NC) in their boycott of the local body polls, and for bungling the party’s alliance with the BJP.

Baig claimed that he was not consulted on the boycott and that this decision had deprived its MLAs the opportunity to connect with the people. When questioned on the possibility of him joining the new political front that Sajjad Lone was trying to create, he replied, “It is premature to say anything at this time. However, if it emerges, I will seriously consider joining it.”
