Dangal actor Zaira Wasim has announced her decision to quit acting, citing religious interference with her work, reports The Hindu.

Zaira, in a detailed post on her Facebook page, said, "though I may fit here perfectly, I do not belong here”, explaining the realisation she went though after all the fame and fortune she garnered over the last five years.

"Five years ago I made a decision that changed my life forever. As I stepped my foot in Bollywood ....This field indeed brought a lot of love, support, and applause my way, but what it also did was to lead me to a path of ignorance, as I silently and unconsciously transitioned out of imaan (faith on belief). While I continued to work in an environment that consistently interfered with my imaan, my relationship with my religion was threatened," added the 18-year-old Dangal-fame actress.

"....during this time I may have consciously or unconsciously planted a seed of temptation in the hearts of many but my sincere advice to everyone is that no amount of success, fame, authority or wealth is worth trading or losing your peace or the light of your Imaan for," elaborated Zaira citing the verses and quotes of Quran saying, "And Allah knows what you conceal and what you reveal. [Quran 16:19]."

“I lost all the ‘Barakah’ [blessing] from my life....I was constantly battling with my soul to reconcile my thoughts and instincts to fix a static picture of my ‘imaan’ and I failed miserably, not just once but a hundred times...I continued to put myself in a vulnerable position where it was always so easy to succumb to the environment that damaged my peace, ‘imaan’ and my relationship with Allah (God),” she said.

Articulating her ardent faith in her belief, Zaira said, "Don’t look for role models or measures of success in the displeasure of Allah and the transgressions of His commandments. Do not allow such people to influence your choices in life or dictate your goals or ambitions," before winding up a long post.

Zaira had made headlines when she alleged molestation by a 39-year-old co-passenger while on a flight from Delhi to Mumbai, in December 2017. The accused was detained by the Mumbai police based on her statement.

The accused had clarified that his leg touched the actress unintentionally and that he had even apologised to her after she raised an alarm. He had also added that he was returning from Delhi after attending a funeral and was really tired while on the flight as he hadn't slept in a long time.

Lawyer of the accused had said, "this is nothing but a publicity stunt by the victim. Vikas did it unintentionally. He does not have any criminal background and is happily married for 12 years and has a 9-year-old son."

Wasim in the past had faced criticism for apologising to separatist elements in a Facebook post over meeting former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.
