Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inducted six women as ministers in his new cabinet at a ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhawan on Thursday (30 May) evening, reports Hindustan Times.

Nirmala Sitharaman, Smriti Irani and Harsimrat Kaur Badal are among the prominent women ministers in the newly elected government. Other women ministers that were inducted in the council of ministers were Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Renuka Singh Saruta and Debashree Chowdhuri.

Sitharaman, who served as the Defence Minister in the previous term of Modi government, has been given the charge of Finance and Corporate Affairs ministry in the Modi 2.0 cabinet.


Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who was part of the previous NDA government, has retained her Food Processing ministry in the new Modi government.

Another woman holding a ministerial berth in the previous term of Modi government was Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, who has been appointed as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Rural Development.

The new comers in the Modi government include two women, Renuka Singh Saruta and Deboshree Chaudhuri. While Renuka Singh Saruta has been appointed as the Minister of State in the Tribal Affairs ministry, Debashree Chaudhuri has been allocated the portfolio of Minister of State in the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
