MP: Narmada-Gambhir River Link Project Inaugurated, To Benefit 57 Villages And 1.25 Lakh Hectares Of Land

The Narmada-Gambhir river link project, constructed at a cost of Rs 2,187 crore, was inaugurated yesterday (27 September), FreePressJournal has reported. The project will help 57 villages and irrigate 1.25 lakh hectares of agricultural land.
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivaraj Singh Chouhan dedicated the project to the people of the region. The inauguration happened at Badi Kalmer near Hathod.
Kshipra, Gambhir, Parwati and Kali Sindh, which flow in the Malwa region, are seasonal rivers. They will become perennial after they are linked with the Narmada. Kshipra and Gambhir river link projects have been completed among the four.
After Narmada-Kshipra link scheme, Narmada-Malwa critical link is another scheme, which will develop irrigation facility for 50,777 hectares of agricultural land. These projects will help double farmer’s income in the long term as reliable irrigation facilities are a key requirement for farmers.
