Three weeks post-the Pulwama attacks, the Indian Naval chief has warned that terrorists could be planning sea-borne attacks against the country.
Recalling the modus operandi of the 26/11 Lashkar-e-Toiba attackers, Admiral Sunil Lanba said they used the sea route to enter India and create mayhem, and hence it was of paramount importance to secure the coastlines.
“India, however, faces a far more serious version of this state-sponsored terrorism. We have all witnessed the horrific scale of extremist attack on Indian state of J&K, just 3 weeks ago. This violence was perpetuated by extremists, aided by a state which seeks to destabilise India, ” he was quoted as saying by a Hindustan Times report.
Emphasising on the vulnerability of the Indo-Pacific region, he said, “The Indo-Pacific region has witnessed multiple forms of terrorism in recent years and few countries in this part of the world have been spared by its impact. The global nature, which terrorism has acquired in recent times, has further enhanced the scope of this threat.”
India’s armed forces are on high alert amid ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.
