In a bid to help students of class IX and X make their career choices and make sure they know their aptitude, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced Know Your Aptitude (KYA) exams, reports Indian Express.

The statement issued by CBSE states that the test is aimed at evaluating students’ strengths and weaknesses, their aptitude level and help them make an informed decision in choosing subjects in class XI and XII.

According to the CBSE website (cbse.nic.in), the registrations for the exam will start from 29 January, 2019. A link will be generated for the CBSE schools to register for the KYA exams. The exam is not mandatory.

Students can partake in the test using their school login ID on any working day, with results being available to parents and teachers.

The teachers themselves will go through training for scoring, assessment and technical understanding of the exam, for which CBSE will give the booklets.

The official statement issued by the CBSE says that the KYA exam would give information about the student's strengths and weaknesses, which would enable parents, teachers and school administrators to help the student make the decisions.

“As students enter the secondary stage of schooling, they move closer to making many important career choices, one of which is deciding subjects to be studied at senior secondary levels such as humanities, commerce, science or vocational,” the statement says.
