Chairperson of National Commission for Women, Rekha Sharma informed the media that despite the body inviting women to file written complaints if they have faced sexual harassment at workplace, not a single complaint has been received so far in the last five days.

She has been quoted by The New Indian Express as saying, “We have widely publicised that we are there to provide all legal help to every woman who wants to take her case to a logical conclusion, but so far nobody has reached out to us.”

NCW has faced criticism in the past for its lackadaisical functioning and regressive views. It recently received flak on its failure to issue a strong statement in the backdrop of rape allegations against four priests of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. NCW had recommended abolition of the practice of confession for women, steering clear of any strong words against the alleged perpetrators.
