The Chairperson of National Commission for Women Rekha Sharma on Sunday (9 June) assured that she would look into reports of Assamese girls being forced to dance naked during an Eid celebration in the state, a few days back.

As reported by OpIndia, a forty two member dance troupe was invited to perform at a cultural show on the occasion of Eid by an organiser named Kuddus Ali. The program was supposed to be held on 7 June at Asolpara village in Kamrup District.

But when the team reached the spot, it found that no stage erected and they were instead guided to a closeted space surrounded by sheet metals on all sides.

After the troupe began their traditional dance, the crowd reportedly turned rowdy and began pulling clothes off the performing girls. The crowd along with the organising committee members then allegedly threatened the girls to dance naked on sexually explicit songs.

As per an FIR filed by the dance troupe’s manager, the girls were also molested by the crowd and they barely managed to escape after the crowd also resorted to vandalising their cars. At least two individuals identified as Subhahan Khan and Shahrukh Khan have been arrested by the police.
