Nearly 17 Lakh COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Administered In A Single Day On Monday Till 9 PM

In a positive development, India administered nearly 17 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines till 9 pm on Monday (8 March), the highest figure achieved on any single day under the nationwide vaccination drive, reports Times of India.

In total, 16.96 lakh vaccine doses were administered as of 9pm on Monday (8 March). A total of 14.3 lakh beneficiaries were administered the first dose, while 2.6 lakh health and frontline workers were administered their second dose.

It should be noted that of the total, 71 per cent of the vaccine doses were administered to elderly citizens aged above 60 years, and those aged between 45-60 years with specified comorbidities.

Since the beginning of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive on 16 January, India has administered a total of 2.26 crore vaccine doses. So far 37.1 lakh health and 3.1 lakh frontline workers have been vaccinated with both doses of the vaccine under the mega inoculation drive.

Meanwhile, the number of active Covid-19 cases have increased in the recent days to 1.88 lakh with states like Maharashtra and Punjab witnessing a surge in the number of cases.
