Following an invite from China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA), delegations of troops from the Indian Army and the PLA respectively came together at the Nathu La Pass in Sikkim to celebrate the Chinese New Year, reports Business Standard.

Colonel level officers led groups from both the sides; pleasantries were exchanged between them in an environment of friendliness and warmth.

As per an official statement, the move is part of the drive to create greater trust between the two sides and ensure peace and security on the border.

The Chinese Lunar New Year is one of the most important days in the Chinese calendar. Families and friends come together to have dinner and welcome the final zodiac sign of the pig.

Children are handed red envelopes containing money on the eve of the new year as an omen of good luck. Public celebrations include traditional lion dances and widespread decorations.
