Citing the reason that students with low attendance who had been permitted to give the Class XII board exams in 2019 had fared poorly, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had rolled out a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure a minimum level of attendance, reports The Indian Express.

CBSE’s new bye-laws will disallow students who have less than 75 per cent attendance throughout the academic year to appear for their XIIth boards. A relaxation will be made for students who take part in national level sports competitions, setting a minimum of 60 per cent attendance for them.

Students seeking condonation will need to send their requests to regional offices of the CBSE latest by 7 January. The applications must also be accompanied by relevant medical documents proving the claim.
