New Feature: Now Users Will Have To Share WhatsApp Chats As Proof To Report Unwanted Contacts

WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow users to report unwanted contacts on the application, Indian Express reports. However, they will have to mandatorily share recent chat messages as a form of evidence for Whatsapp to act against the account.
Hence, if an individual chooses to complain or report a contact, a message will inform, “Most recent messages from this user will be forwarded to WhatsApp.”
The update is now live on the 2.20.206.3 Android version of the application. Both personal and business accounts can be reported on the messaging platform. However, the company will take steps against an account only after properly verifying it, according to Wabetainfo.
The number of reports lodged against a particular user will be assessed firstly. If multiple accounts have complained against a particular individual, then WhatsApp will blacklist them. Android beta testers can access this feature for now.
Currently, if a user receives a message from an unknown person, they have the option to either block, report or add them in the contacts. Now, the individual will be required to submit a copy of messages that they find problematic if they choose to report an account.
Thereafter, a disclaimer reading, “WhatsApp never receives your messages without your permissions. If you decide to report a contact, you agree to forward a copy to WhatsApp of the recent messages from that chat” will appear before the process is initiated.
