In a boost for the solar energy space, as per a report by renewable energy consultancy Bridge to India, the first quarter of the calendar year 2021 saw the addition of 2,105 megawatts (MW) of grid-connected solar power generation capacity as the construction picked up the pace, reports Economic Times.

The utility-scale solar capacity added in the quarter stood at 1,735 MWs, and the figure for rooftop solar capacity addition stood at 370 MWs. On a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) basis, the utility-scale solar capacity addition increased by 33 per cent.

Furthermore, tender issuance and auction activity also saw a big jump in the quarter.

Tender issuance was up by 40 per cent QoQ as a total of 24 utility-scale projects were awarded with a total capacity of 10,801 MWs. This also included three floating solar projects. Meanwhile, auction activity was up by a robust 163 per cent QoQ.

It should be noted that as of 31 March, the total commissioned utility-scale, rooftop solar and off-grid solar capacity stood at 35,939 MWs, 7,162 MWs and 1,140 MWs respectively. In total, the project pipeline stood at 52,392 MWs.
