NITI Aayog Unveils Rs 7,500 Crore Mega Plan To Extensively Develop AI Adoption In India

In a bid to push India in the new age Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and paradigm, the NITI Aayog has charted out a plan for an institutional framework for AI development in the country, reports Economic Times.
The NITI Aayog has circulated a cabinet note in this regard, highlighting the need of funds of Rs 7,500 crore to set up five centres of research excellence (CORE), 20 international centres for transformational AI (ICTAI) and a cloud computing platform, AIRAWAT, which can be accessed by anyone.
The funding would be channelled into selected investments in three years. NITI Aayog has also recommended the setting up of a high-level task force to oversee the implementation of the plan, headed by a NITI Aayog member with representation from all ministries and states besides experts as its key members.
The NITI Aayog had been entrusted with the job of coming up with a national programme on AI in the Union budget 2018-19. Keeping up with the spirit, NITI Aayog released the national strategic framework for AI in June 2018.
Recently, the Aayog's CEO Amitabh Kant had written to states and ministries requesting them to identify critical projects across the five identified sectors where AI can be adopted.
