In a bid to assuage the concerns of Hindus whose names have not been included in the contentious National Register of Citizens (NRC) concluded in Assam, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat assured them on Monday (23 September) that exclusion from NRC won't mean expulsion from the country, reports Hindustan Times.
Bhagwat was addressing a closed-door gathering of the RSS and BJP functionaries in Kolkata when he expressed his concern and assured the Hindus whose names have been left out of the NRC in a list of 1.9 million persons.
RSS chief has also asked the cadre in Assam to reach out to the affected and help allay their concerns. He has allegedly also pressed on the Government to get the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill passed in the Parliament for ensuring that such Hindus whose names have been left out of NRC will not be affected.
Meanwhile, attacking the BJP for asserting that if it comes to power, it will carry out an NRC exercise in West Bengal, Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee vowed that she will never allow NRC in the state, asking people to have faith in her about the same.
