No Illegal Banners: Madras HC Seeks Proper Documentation For Digital Banners Commemorating MGR Anniversary

The City Corporation Commissioner was directed by the Madras High Court to produce all the necessary documents pertaining to an application filed by the Tamil Nadu government and other political parties for erecting digital banners on the eve of the centenary celebrations of former Chief Minister M G Ramachandran, NDTV has reported.
The HC also directed the city police commissioner to produce a no-objection certificate issued by the traffic wing of the city police. A division bench comprising Justice P Rajamanickam and Justice M Sathyanarayanan issued the directive on a PIL petition filed by ‘Traffic’ K R Ramaswamy seeking action against illegal posters and banners.
The bench also directed Jayaprakash Narayan, government pleader in-charge, to file a status report on the permission granted by the police as well as local bodies and the erection of banners all across the state. The matter was posted to 5 December for further hearing.
The bench had warned that if it came across illegal banners, it will not hesitate to take to task the sponsor, printer and the people whose picture appear on banners.
