No More Stamps On Your Boarding Pass: Mumbai Airport Becomes First In India To Introduce ‘Digi Yatra’ Facility

Domestic passengers travelling from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) within the country will not need to get their boarding cards stamped, Moneycontrol reported.
The domestic carriers- Air India, Jet Airways and Vistara along with the international airlines in the Mumbai airport operate from the airport’s T2. The GVK-led group which runs the airport has equipped the airport with the latest tech which will remove the stamping of boarding passes for passengers travelling via domestic airline carriers.
The latest development will ensure the CSIA in Mumbai becomes the first-ever airport in India to introduce the newly proposed “digi yatra” service the MIAL adds.
The “digi yatra” is an initiative of the civil aviation ministry and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The service aims to reduce the paperwork for air travel by adding a digital service for entry into airport and boarding of flights by using the Aadhaar number and mobile phones of passengers.
The passengers travelling via the T2 will need to authenticate their boarding passes at the pre-embarkation security checkpoints and scan their boarding pass bar code or QR code on their phones at the e-gate reader by using the live passenger data set the release said.
The new process will eliminate the responsibility of CISF personnel at boarding points and hence saving their time and improving the overall security check experience.
Further, the initiative also comes under the Digital India as it involves adopting new technology apart from digitising the experience of commuters and hence make it a hassle-free process.
According to the MIAL, the pilot feature introduced by CSMIA aims to save time to finish the various pre-flight boarding checks.
