Ending an anti-militancy encounter in the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), the Indian Army fired retaliatory shots at those who were obstructing them.

Last month, Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Bipin Rawat had warned civilians who were pelting stones at armymen, stating that the army would retaliate. It seems now that he has kept his word.

Crowds began pelting stones at the army during the encounter earlier today, resulting in 23 soldiers getting injured with one of them sustaining serious injuries.

The army in retaliation fired back at those pelting stones, injuring 17 of them and leaving three of them dead.

Following the deaths of the injured, separatists called for a bandh in the region.
