No Plans To Build Satellite Campuses For IITs, IIMs And JNU, Reveals MoS HRD Ministry Satyapal Singh

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), on Monday (31 December 2018), has said that it has no plans of opening a satellite campus of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) or Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), the New Indian Express reports.
A satellite campus is a campus of university or college, set at a distance from the original college or university area. While responding to a written question in Lok Sabha, the Union Minister for HRD, Satyapal Singh said, "There is no plan for the opening of a satellite campus or branches by JNU, IITs or IIMs. As a policy, the government does not encourage the establishment of satellite campuses of such educational institution”.
Earlier, in October, the vice-chancellor of JNU, Jagadesh Kumar had made announcements that the university is planning to set a satellite campus outside the national capital region (NCR). The university, aiming to make itself more accessible to more students, also set up an expert committee to ensure the plan was feasible or not.
