Not A Serious Aspirant? UPSC Will Now Allow Candidates To Withdraw Applications Before Exam

In a bid to weed out non-serious aspirants and provide better facilities for candidates appearing for examinations, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has decided to allow non-serious and under-prepared candidates to withdraw their applications before the exam, reports The Times of India.
The facility will be made available for the applicants of Engineering Services examination 2019 and will be extended to other tests such as the civil services as well.
Earlier there had been reports suggesting that over 50 per cent of applicants did not appear for the examinations conducted by the UPSC. In 2017, more than 9.58 lakh candidates applied for the civil service exams out of which less than 4.57 attended the preliminary examinations.
UPSC is also reportedly working on a shift from the pen and paper model of examinations to an online system. The new system would be candidate-friendly and helps in reducing the time-cycle for each examination said the Chairman.
The scores of the non-recommended candidates would also be hosted on the UPSC’s website, a database which could be used for employment elsewhere he added.
