Namakkal-Karur Highway (Reliance Infrastructure/NHAI)
Tamil Nadu is getting more than just the Chennai-Salem greenfield expressway with farmers becoming amenable to the land acquisition, at least eight more greenfield highways coming up in the state. According to a report The NewsMinute, According to an official of the Tamil Nadu Highways and Minor Ports Department (HMPD), each of these highways would have the same social and environmental impact as the Chennai-Salem Expressway.
All the projects would come under the Centre’s Bharatmala Pariyojana, under which Tamil Nadu is slated to get 570 km of new highways. Chief Minister Edapadi Palaniswamy had met with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in February.
The eight other projects that have been approved are Karur-Coimbatore, Melur-Thanjavur, Kumbakonam-Puducherry, Madurai-Dhanushkodi, Dindgul-Pollachi, Chennai-Chittoor, along with a new bridge along the existing Pamban Bridge and the Hosur Ring Road which will be part of the Bengaluru Satellite Ring Road, all of which will be handled by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
While parts of these highways will be upgrades to existing roads, a bulk of them will be greenfield stretches, along completely new alignments.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
