In a severe blow to the Kerala government led by Pinarayi Vijayan, former Chief Minister and CPI(M) politburo member V S Achuthananthan slammed Kerala government for its policy lapse in managing the floods that devastated Kerala in August, as reported by Malayala Manorama .

Achuthanathan who is also serving as the Chairperson of Kerala Administrative Reforms Commission criticised his own party led government for its failure in removing illegal encroachments in Munnar attributed the same for floods.

Development in Kerala is taking the wrong direction and there must be a course correction done on a war footing, he was quoted saying in the assembly. He also said that ignoring the Madhav Gadgil committee recommendation has cost the state dearly.

The opposition had also accused the government for its policy lacuna in the assembly and criticism from the senior-most leader of the ruling party comes as the latest blow for the state’s CPI(M)-led government.
