Vivek Doval, son of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, on Monday (27 May) recorded his evidence before a Delhi court in a defamation case filed by him against The Caravan magazine, its editor-in-chief Paresh Nath, reporter Kaushal Shroff and senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, reports The Hindu.

According to the report, Doval in his submission to the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal alleged that the magazine’s article ‘The D Companies’, which was published in January 2016, was full with random and wrong facts. He said that the article was defamatory and had tarnished his and his father’s reputation.

“The article in a very systematic way creates inferences and innuendos which make readers think that Vivek Doval and his family are involved in illegal activities such as money laundering and round tripping of the Capital,” Doval submitted, as reported by The Hindu.

He denied his father Ajit Doval having any relation with the company. “My father [Ajit Doval] is my hero... When I came back to Delhi, I was confronted by my father on the veracity of these utterances. I broke down. I felt helpless. My father has no relation with the company,” he further submitted.

Doval said that the senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had reiterated the allegations at a press conference and people posted insulting remarks against him and his family on Youtube as a reaction to the video of the presser.

After recording Doval’s evidence, the court fixed 10 July as the date for his cross-examination by the counsel of the accused.
