In a bid to ensure the safe movement of troops in naxal infested areas and insurgency hit Jammu & Kashmir, the government will soon provide mine-protected vehicles (MPVs) to the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), reports Business Today.
In the meantime, the National Security Guard (NSG), the elite anti terror force, will be equipped with remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to add more stealth during operations. Rs 17 crore has been sanctioned to the force to purchase seven such vehicles.
To go for the purchase of additional mine-protected vehicles, bullet proof jackets, ambulance, etc. an expenditure sanction of Rs 624 crore has been issued to the CAPFs such as CRPF and BSF.
One such vehicle can accommodate six personnel, protecting them from improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Naxal hit areas and in parts of the Kashmir Valley.
The ROVs will aid the NSG to carry out surveillance inside buildings, buses, railway stations, etc and help forces locate and diffuse IEDs without human intervention.
The NSG commandos have seen action across varied, challenging theatres like the terrorist attack on the Akshardham Temple in Gujarat in 2002, during the 26/11 attacks of Mumbai in 2008, and the Pathankot attack in 2016.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
