After several media reports emerged, in addition to a statement by Republican senator Lindsey Graham to CNN, it seems very likely that the Obama administration was set to slap a new round of sanction on Russia for its alleged interference in the United States presidential election of 2016.

President-elect Donald Trump, however, disagrees with the move to impose sanctions on Russia. According to a Russia Today report, on being asked by reporters if imposing the sanctions would make any sense, Trump said the country needed to move on.

Throughout his election campaign and now as President-elect, Trump has been seen as soft on Russia. Media reports have emerged saying that the Trump administration may even take steps like lifting sanctions off of Russia to mend the relationship with Moscow. This is in stark contrast to the view of President Obama who, after intelligence agencies pointed to Russian hacking, threatened Russia with a payback.
