Ride-sharing aggregator Ola yesterday (16 April) said that it has a plan to add 10,000 new electric vehicles (EVs) to its fleet with auto-rickshaws set to play a major role in it, reports PTI. The new plan is part of Ola’s Mission Electric programme that will be taken up in phases over the next twelve months.

The Softbank-backed company plans to add one million EVs to its fleet by 2021. Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said that the company had covered over four million electric kms.

Ola launched its first EV project in Nagpur last May that included electric cabs, rickshaws, buses, rooftop charging systems and also battery swapping. It is also looking to partner with various government bodies to provide more sustainable EV solutions.

The company plans to expand its electric footprint to three other cities but did not name them. It added that the Nagpur pilot provided them with feedback to work on projects to develop a business model for EV deployment across India.

Ola said that it was in talks with various governments to deploy electric three wheelers and also was in talks with manufacturers and innovators to bring more electric vehicles on India’s roads.
