To connect places that haven’t been linked before, Air India is commencing its operations between Pantnagar and Dehradun beginning 19 December under the UDAN Scheme (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik). Four times a week, the flight will connect Pantnagar to Delhi and the state capital.

Times of India quoted SK Singh, Director of Pantnagar Airport as saying, “This flight route was earlier assigned to a private airlines company which failed to start the operations and was later given to the second highest bidder, Air India.”

The aircraft that will be used for the operations is the ATR, that holds a seating capacity between 42 and 72. Additionally, the flights will be operated on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Singh was quoted as saying, “The UDAN scheme is an initiative which will facilitate the realisation of the benefits of the aviation sector. The Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved the route and the online bookings will start from 15 December. Under the UDAN scheme, 50 per cent of the seats are reserved and will be sold at between Rs 500 and Rs 2,500.”
