Former Union minister and late Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) patriarch M Karunanidhi’s son, M K Alagiri, has said that he would seek justice from the electorates of Thiruvarur Assembly constituency for the injustice meted out to him by the DMK led by his younger brother M K Stalin. “Many people are requesting me to contest in the by-elections that are due in Thiruvarur constituency soon. Whether I will seek votes or not, I will certainly seek justice from the people,” Alagiri said at a meeting to pay homage to Karunanidhi, making no bones about his intentions to contest the by-elections.

By-elections are due in Thiruvarur in Tamil Nadu following the death of Karunanidhi on 7 August. By-polls are also due in Thiruparankundram following the death of A K Bose, who represented that constituency in Madurai in the State Assembly.

Tamil daily Dinamalar quoted Alagiri recalling spending his childhood in Thiruvarur and telling the meeting that he was visiting the place after seven years. Earlier this month, reports said that Alagiri’s son, Dayanidhi, was carrying out a survey to find out how much influence he was wielding. Alagiri was expelled from the DMK in 2014 on grounds of dissidence and the former Union minister holds Stalin responsible for putting pressure on their father to take action. Alagiri has appealed to DMK leaders, who are unhappy with Stalin to consolidate behind him.
