In a major announcement, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan shared on 28 February that 'One Nation, One Ration Card' will be implemented in 20 States of India from 1 June onwards, reports Hindu Businessline.

It should further be noted that 12 States of the nation have already implemented the new regime. These include Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana and Tripura. While the likes of big States such as Bihar and Uttar Pradesh (UP) are expected to implement the regime by the end of March.

Paswan also busted the worries that under the new regime people would need to get new ration cards made for themselves to continue getting benefits and that some corporate house would be given the responsibility for the same.

Paswan asserted that the existing ration cards would be enough. He also shared that the Ministry expects as many as 63 crore to benefit from the new regime.
