OnePlus Expands Presence In India: Opens First R&D Facility In Country, To Invest Rs 1,000 Crore In Next 3 Years

Leading premium smartphone brand in India, OnePlus inaugurated its first research and development (R&D) facility in Hyderabad on Monday (26 August) for which the company plans to invest Rs 1,000 crore in the next three years, the Telecom Talk reports.

The event was attended by Former Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao, Principal Secretary for IT- IAS Jayesh Ranjan and company founder and CEO Pete Lau. With the investment, the company aims to generate over 2,000 jobs in the city.

The company said that the R&D facility “will not only play a critical role in the development of Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning in OnePlus products but will also drive innovations that are centric and relevant to the company’s Indian community.”

Further, the facility will focus on various developments not limited to Oxygen Operating System (OS). “We plan to re-focus our R&D efforts on a large scale and drive innovations in India for the global product, especially on the software side with special emphasis on Artificial Intelligence, 5G and IoT,” Pete Lau said.

The facility, located in Vamsiram IT Park, Wipro Circle, Nanakramguda, has three labs- camera lab, networking lab and an automation lab. The facility will focus on five main areas- OxygenOS, global carrier customisation, network, software innovation and testing.

Among other plans for the country, OnePlus also announced that it will be opening its first flagship Experience Store in Hyderabad to grow in the offline market. The flagship experience store will offer a unique experience when compared to other standard experience stores in Hyderabad and across the country.
