Amid the massive demand surge caused by countrywide 21-day lockdown, leading online grocery firms BigBasket and Grofers are set to hire 12,000 workers to strengthen their delivery ecosystem, reports Economic Times.

BigBasket is set to hire 10,000 permanent on-ground staff to work at warehouses, distribution centres and as delivery personnel, while its rival Grofers is planning to hire 2,000 additional workers.

According to the report, the e-commerce companies have been facing the problem of the reduced workforce due to migrant workers returning to their native places amid the 21-day lockdown in the country.

Besides BigBasket and Grofers, e-commerce giants like Flipkart and Amazon have resolved the issues around on-ground staff movement in at least the top 30 cities. They, however, continue to face staff shortage to pick and sort the orders at their warehouses and hubs.
