West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing the success of Mission Shakti under which India has developed a fully indigenous Anti-Satellite missile.

As per ANI, the TMC supremo alleged that “what was the need for Modi to violate model code of conduct and take credit”. She even went on to ask if he is going to space.

Mamata did not stop at that and called it a political announcement. She added that only one satellite was destroyed which wasn’t necessary as it was “lying there since long”. She concluded by assuring that she would knock on Election Commission’s door over this matter.

Earlier it was reported that former DRDO chief Dr V K Saraswat has criticised the erstwhile UPA government for not giving a positive response to the operation.

As per Dr Saraswat, he and other senior officials had made presentations to the National Security Adviser and National Security Council during the UPA era. He added that while discussions were held and attended by the concerned parties, the UPA government never gave a positive response to the mission.

Dr Saraswat goes ahead to state that things changed when the Narendra Modi led government came to power. He states that the current Chairman of DRDO Dr Satheesh Reddy and National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval made a similar proposal to Prime Minister Modi who had the courage to give a go ahead.
