Organisers Cancel Kolkata Beef Festival Over Alleged Threats And Safety Concerns

The Accidental Note, the company behind plans to hold the Kolkata Beef Festival on 23 June, has shelved the event over what it says are concerns over security, reports News18.
The official name of the event had previously been changed from the Kolkata Beef Festival to the Kolkata Beep Festival after some backlash.
"We are afraid because everything has been blown out of proportion somehow. Things are not in our control anymore. For all of these reasons, the Kolkata Beep Festival stands cancelled," said the company on Facebook.
The company claimed that a member of their team was inundated with hundreds of calls, some of which were threats.
One of the organisers stated that the "event had nothing to do with politics or religion". The company maintains that it planned to hold the event post-elections to avoid controversy, but that had not worked out.
Reports of the planned event had drawn immense backlash and outrage from sections of the public, particularly from the Hindu community, whose members generally avoid eating beef as per the religious beliefs of the cow’s sacredness.
