Video Streaming service, Amazon Prime Video India plans nine new Hindi original shows in the next year, reported the Television Post.
Amazon Prime Video director, head, content Vijay Subramaniam at a media briefing, said that the plan is to launch nine shows in Hindi next year while also mentioning plans of a Tamil original show this year.
Subramaniam stated that they will be scaling-up the content offered on the platform. Pointing out the fact that 40 per cent of Breathe’s viewership came from outside India, he added local content had been successful outside the country as well.
With the release of Mirzapur, Prime Video has now launched five Hindi Original Prime series. “This just goes to show that the more authentic our stories are the more of a global audience there is for it. I am super excited about ‘Mirzapur’ because I fell that it will not only make a mark in India but globally also it will definitely have an impact. It is an amazingly authentic heartland story. The writing is absolutely fantastic. It is a world beater show. The ensemble cast is powerful. There was no question about whether or not we would do the show. We had to decide on the number of episodes and how long each episode would be,” Subramaniam said at the media briefing.
With the recent launch of Kannada, Prime Video now has six regional language services in Hindi, Bangla, Tamil, Telugu and Marathi. Prime Video has plans to launch more regional languages within the next one and the half year, Subramaniam adds.
During the media briefing, Subramaniam also addressed regional language services that helped build engagement and rapport with its customers, marketing matching movies with Cinema TV productions, and the rise of the genre of comedy.
