Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, has accused the army and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of ‘attempting to rig the upcoming elections’, NDTV has reported. He said that the army is attempting to swing the elections in favour of certain political parties, which includes Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaaf.

"DG ISPR Major-General Asif Ghafoor presented clarifications and justifications by mentioning ISI's Faiz Hameed. I wish such a situation should not have arrived. It is unfortunate that the justifications were made on the political affairs rather than the military ones," Sharif is quoted to have said to the media in London.

The former prime minister is presently staying in London. He was recently convicted by ‘accountability court’ in Islamabad in the Avenfield properties corruption case. His daughter Maryam Nawaz has also been convicted for seven years imprisonment, who is presently with him in London.

Nawaz’s son-in-law was arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) after being convicted by the court in the same case. NAB has added Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz to the Exit Control List (ECL). ECL prevents Pakistani nationals who have arrived in the country to fly out again.
