Intelligence inputs have warned that Pakistan has positioned Afghan, Pashtun terrorists at various launchpads across the Line of Control (LoC) in a bid to infiltrate them into India.
Defence sources said that Pakistan is trying to keep up the heat at the LoC in order to invite international attention. Pakistan’s previous bids to internationalise the issue didn’t bear fruit post Article 370 didn’t bear fruit.
“There have also been specific intelligence inputs that Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) has deployed over a dozen Afghan and Pathan terrorists for Border Action Team (BAT) attempts, comprising of Afghan militants and highly trained Special Services Group (SSG) of the Pakistan Army and for infiltration across the LoC into Lipa valley in North Kashmir,” defence sources were quoted as saying by The Hindu.
The intelligence inputs also said that the terrorists could target major Indian cities. There has been regular exchange of fire on the LoC. Usually, Pakistan Army resorts to ceasefire violations as a cover to facilitate infiltration.
The officials also informed that Pakistan has been recruiting Afghan and Pashtun fighters as the locals recruited have a short stint at terrorism, thanks to sustained counter insurgency operations by security forces. On the other hand, the foreign terrorists are well trained and battle hardened.
Pakistan is also carrying out a major recruitment drive in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, especially in areas opposite Keran, Lipa and Poonch sectors.
Due to security reasons, relaxing the restrictions in the valley had to be calibrated to prevent violence, the officials added.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
