Indians under the age of 15 and over 65 travelling to Nepal and Bhutan can now use Aadhaar cards as valid travel documents, according to a Home Ministry communique, reports The Tribune.
Others could use a valid passport, an election ID card or identity card issued by the Government of India.
Earlier, citizens over 65 and under 15 could show their PAN card, driving licence, Central Government Health Services card or ration card, but not the Aadhaar, to prove their identity and visit the two countries.
The certificate of registration issued by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu, to Indian nationals is not acceptable for travelling between India and Nepal, an embassy official was quoted by Tribune as saying.
Teenagers between 15 and 18 will be allowed to travel between India and Nepal by the identity certificate issued by the principal of their respective schools in a prescribed form.
Only one of the adult members needs to have valid travel papers in case of a family travelling together.
