In a tragic incident in Pakistan, a prominent journalist Matiullah Jan was abducted in broad light in the Islamic Republic's capital city in Islamabad on Tuesday (21 July), reports Times of India.

Jan is a known for his staunch criticism of the all-powerful military establishment in Pakistan. As per details shared by his wife Kaneez Sughr who teaches at a government-run girls school, Jan was abducted after he had dropped her at the school at around 9:30am.


The security footage captured by the school's CCTV camera showed that several men had forces Jan into a sedan at the main gate of the school. Jan could also be seen tossing a mobile phone over the school's fence, which was later handed over to the police by a security guard.

Noted Pakistani news daily Dawn's editor and senior journalist Zaffar Abbas reacting to the development called it extremely disturbing and highly condemnable. He went on to assert, "such acts of desperation will not prolong this fascist era."
