In the final tally released by the Election Commission of Pakistan, Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has emerged as the single largest party with 115 National Assembly seats, The Dawn has reported.

According to reports, the elections were rigged by the Pakistan Army to bring Khan - its favourite candidate - to power in Islamabad.

The delay in the declaration of results, which was made more than 56 hours after the conclusion of voting, has angered the candidates. Political parties, including jailed former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and former President Asif Ali Zardari’s Pakistan People's Party (PPP) have levelled allegations of fraud in the elections.

While Sharif’s PML-N has got 64 seats, Zardari’s PPP won in 43 constituencies. The two parties were ranked second and third respectively. The Muttahida Majlis-e-Aml, an alliance of multiple religious parties, came fourth with 12 seats. Pakistan Muslim League-Q and the newly formed Balochistan Awami Party have won four seats each. The Sindh-based Grand Democratic Alliance has got two seats.

However, Sharif’s party has managed to retain its home state of Punjab.

PML-N, which has ruled Punjab for two consecutive tenures, has won 129 of the 295 provincial assembly seats. The PTI is close behind with 123 seats. Zardari’s party, PPP, will form the government in Sindh province. PTI has won in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Balochistan Awami Party in Balochistan.
