In a major development, the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs has recommended that the Monsoon Session of the Parliament be held from 14 September to 1 October, reports Hindu Businessline.

As per the Committee's recommendation, the Monsoon Session would include a total of 18 sittings and the preparations for the same are underway given the Session would be held with a host of first-time measures being implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The measures include staggered sittings of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, also the use of both the chambers and galleries of the two houses for accommodating the members while following social distancing norms and many more initiatives.

In the case of a Rajya Sabha sitting for instance, while 60 members will be seated in the House's chamber, 51 will be seated in its galleries, and remaining 132 in the chamber of Lok Sabha. A similar setting is also in the works for Lok Sabha sittings.

This will be the first time since 1952 that such arrangements will be in place to hold a session of the Parliament. Furthermore, it will also be the first time that while one of the House will sit during the morning hours, the other in the evening.
