‘Passing’ Muster: Indians Export Goods Worth Rs 3.75 Crore To China At Nathula, Import Rs 27-Crore Worth Items

The thirteenth edition of bilateral trade between India and China at Nathula border in Sikkim this year saw Indian traders exporting goods worth Rs 3.75 crore to China, The Tribune has reported.
According to a release by the Information and Public Relations department (IPR) of Sikkim government, during the seven months of trading window at Nathula border, Indian traders exported Rs 3.75 crore worth goods to China and imported Rs 27.69 crore worth goods from their Chinese counterparts of Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR).
A function, attended by Commerce and Industries department officials and other department officials of the Centre and state, was held at Nathula border to mark the closure of this year’s trading season at the Indo-China border.
The release by the Sikkim government stated that trade at Nathula border registered a growth of about 15 per cent this year against the trade volume of Rs 3.54 crore last year.
The trade between India and China through the Nathula route was suspended for two months owing to tensions between the two countries over the Doklam issue, it said.
Indian exports to China through Nathula border comprises 36 items ranging from dairy products to utensils, while Chinese TAR exports comprises 20 items including quilts and jackets.
