Patna Metro Takes Shape, To Have Equal Stretch Of Underground And Elevated Tracks

The proposed Patna metro rail will have an equal stretch of underground and elevated sections, Times of India has reported. Saguna Mor-Bailey Road-Mithapur corridor will be underground while the Patna Junction-Ashok Rajpath-Zero Mile-proposed ISBT track will be mostly elevated.
The cost of an underground track is estimated to be Rs 480 crore per kilometre whereas the elevated section costs Rs 240 crore per kilometre. The Patna Metro rail will run 31 km across the city. Urban Development and Housing Department (UDHD) will be the nodal organisation for the metro project.
The estimated cost of the project will be Rs 17,800 crore. The centre and state will fund 20 per cent each of the cost of the project while rest of the 60 per cent of the cost will be met through financial aid.
“The target is to complete the project and make metro rail functional in five years from the commencement of works,” Special Secretary, UDHD Sanjay Dayal told Times of India.
However, the state government is yet to send a complete detailed project report (DPR) to the centre regarding the metro project. The plan will be presented before the state cabinet and then sent to the centre within a fortnight.
