Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has got back his government bungalow in Bhopal which he was forced to vacate following a high court ruling, Times of India has reported.

Singh was asked to vacate the bungalow numbered B1 in Shyamala Hills following a June court ruling which barred former chief ministers from availing government accommodation.

This verdict had reportedly prompted erstwhile MP chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to use his discretionary powers to allot accommodation to former chief ministers like Uma Bharti and Babulal Gaur, but he did not do the same for Digvijaya Singh.

This changed after Kamal Nath ascended to power in the state, who has now used the same discretionary powers to give Digvijaya Singh his former accommodation back. The order confirming it was issued by the estate department on Tuesday (18 December).

Deputy state home secretary B S Jamod was quoted as saying that Digvijaya Singh’s Rajya Sabha MP status entitles him to avail a government bungalow.

Nath’s decision to re-allot bungalows appears to be a bipartisan one as the report quoted him as saying that the very first file he signed was for allotting a bungalow to Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
