West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar on Tuesday afternoon (4 May) said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called him expressing deep anguish over the alarmingly worrisome law and order situation in the state.

Governor Dhankar has said that he shares the grave concerns of the Prime Minister as violence vandalism, arson, loot and killings continue unabated in the state.

Governor Dhankar had yesterday summoned Director General West Bengal Police and Kolkata Commissioner in the wake of rising post poll incidents of arson, looting and violence along with political killings. He had also urged them to take all steps possible to restore law and order in the state.

Governor Dhankar who also met Mamata Banerjee at his residence, stressed upon their interaction to take all steps to ensure the post poll violence, arson, loot and killings end.

The BJP workers and their dispensation has been at the receiving end of major political violence launched by alleged TMC workers. This has led to the death of at least six BJP workers and left many others injured. The properties of BJP workers and party workers have been vandalised across the state.
