Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (26 May) chaired a meeting with National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat and the Tri-Service Chiefs over the ongoing border standoff with China, News18 has reported.

Prime Minister Modi also held a meeting with Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla.

Prime Minister Modi’s meeting was preceded by a meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh which was attended by the CDS and the three armed forces chiefs.

Earlier, Indian Army and China's People's Liberation Army held several meetings to resolve the situation in eastern Ladakh at the Line of Actual Control. However, no breakthrough was reported till Monday.

The previous meeting took place on Sunday, but many things remained unresolved, said sources, adding more commander-level talks are likely to resolve the issues.

Sources said there have so far been five rounds of talks between military commanders on the ground without much progress.

The border skirmishes are said to be an effort by China to get India to stop building new infrastructure near the borders. China has reportedly also put forth a condition that India cease all infra works - a condition unacceptable to New Delhi.
