PM Modi Congratulates Abhijit Banerjee For Winning Sveriges Riksbank Prize In Economic Sciences In Memory Of Alfred Nobel

Taking note of the contributions made by Indian-American economist Professor Abhijit Banerjee in the field of economics, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Monday (14 October) lauded him upon winning the prestigious Nobel prize for Economics, reports Asian News International (ANI).
Tweeting through his official Twitter handle, PM Modi said, "Congratulations to Abhijit Banerjee on being conferred the 2019 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. He has made notable contributions in the field of poverty alleviation."
PM Modi also extended his congratulations to Banerjee's French-American wife Esther Duflo and United-States citizen Michael Kremer who shared the Nobel prize along with Banerjee for their work in the domain of poverty alleviation.
It should be noted that Banerjee has previously criticised PM Modi's execution of demonetisation, and has also been one of the few who helped the Congress party formulate the NYAY scheme prior to the Lok Sabha elections this year.
