PM Modi on Saturday (16 January) launched the roll out of pan-India Covid-19 vaccination drive via video conferencing.

Billed as the world's largest vaccination program, covering the entire length and breadth of the country, the drive aims to first inoculate millions of its healthcare and frontline workers and reach an estimated 3 crore people by the end of its first phase, reports Livemint.

A total of 3006 session sites across all states and union territories were virtually connected during the launch.

Around 100 beneficiaries will be vaccinated at each session site on the inaugural day, the Union Health Ministry has said.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi said that India had set examples for the world during the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

"At a time when some countries had left their citizens in the midst of growing Coronavirus, India brought back every Indian trapped in China. And not only of India, we also brought back citizens of many other countries," he said.

"Today the whole world is praising the way India dealt with this epidemic. India also set the example of how center and state govts, local bodies, government institution, social institutions can work united," PM Modi said.

Highlighting the indigenous development of Covid-19 vaccines, PM Modi said, "It usually takes years to make a vaccine. But in such a short time, India developed not one, but two Made in India vaccines".
