The United Arab Emirates today (24 August) awarded Prime Minister Narendra Modi with its highest civilian honour, the ‘Order of Zayed’, which is named after the founding father of the country, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, reports The Times of India.

The award was presented to the prime minister by Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The UAE giving this award to Modi at this time is of particular significance since it is also the birth centenary year of its founding father.

Modi also held delegation level bilateral talks on a number of strategic, economic and diplomatic issues.

The prime minister also launched the RuPay card in the country. A number of companies present on the occasion all pledged to accept it as a mode of the payment in the future.

The UAE visit is the second leg of an ongoing three-nation journey to France, the UAE and Bahrain.
